鯖魚主要分花腹鯖及白腹鯖兩種。廣泛分布於世界各大洋的溫帶及熱帶海域，喜歡成群於中表層洄游，捕魚浮游生物及魚蝦維生。花腹鯖主要產於台灣東北部蘇澳及彭佳嶼海域。白腹鯖全年有產，以蘇澳為主產地，七月至十一月為鯖魚盛產期。

Mackerel is a coastal pelagic species, to a lesser extent epipelagic to mesopelagic over the continental slope. Most stays near the bottom during the day and goes up to the open water at night, where it feeds on copepods and other crustaceans, fishes and squids. The species is cosmopolitan and inhabits the warm and temperate transition waters of the Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific oceans and adjacent seas. It is very common in all Taiwanese waters.

齒鰆，又名東方狐鰹、煙仔虎，冬季肥美適合生魚片、紅燒、味增湯也是罐頭海底雞的原料。
及十足類等為食。
地臺灣四周海域均有出現，但以東部、東北部為主。

Toothed tuna, also known as the Japanese cutlassfish or bonito, is a delicacy during winter and is suitable for sashimi, braising, miso soup, and is also used as an ingredient in canned seafood medley. It is preyed upon by various predators such as the Japanese spider crab.
Toothed bonito can be found in the coastal waters surrounding Taiwan, with the eastern and northeastern regions being its primary habitats.

通稱皮刀魚，產在西太平洋、南海等亞熱帶和熱帶近海海域，身體扁平像菜市場切豬肉的菜刀。屬暖海近岸中表層洄游性魚類，春末夏初為盛產期。

Mene Maculate inhabits deeper coastal waters near the bottom on both the continental shelves and around major island groups; sometimes in river estuaries. Most found in schools and feeds on benthic invertebrates. The species distributes in the Indo-Pacific from East Africa to southern Japan and northeastern Australia. Recorded from the South China Sea and the Arafura Sea, it is a common species in Taiwan except eastern part.

又名四破魚，體側扁圓錐狀，側線在前方有明顯弧形彎曲，腹部銀白，一年四季皆有產量，初夏及秋末時較豐。

Hard Tail Scad is a pelagic schooling species and found in the sublittoral zone and may enter semi-enclosed sea areas and feeds primarily on smaller planktonic invertebrates. Most distribute in Indo-West Pacific, from South China Sea to the Marianas. It is a very common species in all Taiwanese waters.

俗稱硬尾、巴攏、竹筴魚，群游於近沿岸海域，有日夜垂直分布之習性。分布於台灣、大陸沿海、日本及朝鮮半島等西北太平洋區。台灣各地沿岸均可發現，屬常見魚種。初夏及秋末產量較豐。

Jack Mackerelis confined to the west North Pacific from southern Japan, Korean Peninsula to the East China Sea. It is frequently found in all Taiwanese waters, especially in the north and east. The species occurs on continental waters. Juveniles associate with drifting seaweed.

俗稱紅尾、紅尾巴攏、赤尾仔，分布於非洲東岸、印尼、菲律賓、澳洲、中國東海、台灣及日本。成群迴游於中水層，有時可達水深300公尺，以浮游生物為主食，台灣各地沿岸均可發現，產量豐富。多用於延繩釣用餌。

Horse Mackerelis a deep-water, schooling species taken in depths of 100 to 300 m, but usually below 150 m. It feeds primarily on smaller planktonic invertebrates. Most broadly distributes in tropical and subtropical waters of Indo-West Pacific and are frequently found in all Taiwanese waters.

俗稱煙仔，體橢圓延長，屬沿岸性集體洄游性魚類，分佈全世界溫、熱帶海域，夏季產卵，腥味濃，一般多用在延繩釣用餌方面或製作柴魚。

Bonito is epipelagic in neritic and oceanic waters. It feeds on small fish, squids, planktonic crustaceans, and stomatopod larvae. Most are widespread in the tropical and subtropical waters of the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian oceans. It is a common species in Taiwan, especially in southern and eastern part.
